Student Competition "This Art is Your Art" Launches Today


We are excited to announce that today the , , and the 黑料网 launched , an online competition that invites graduate and undergraduate university students in the United States to engage with the artwork in the White House.

The encourages students to select a particular work of art in the White House collection from a gallery on Artsy鈥檚 website, and submit a three-minute video that focuses on the historical and artistic context of the work. Five winners will be selected by a jury comprised of eight renowned artists, educators, museum professionals, and public figures:

  • Caroline Baumann, Executive Director of the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum;
  • Melissa Chiu, Executive Director of the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden;
  • JiaJia Fei, Director of Digital, Jewish Museum;
  • Agnes Gund, Chairman of the Board of MoMA PS1 and President Emerita of MoMA;
  • William Kloss, Art historian and author of 鈥淎rt in the White House鈥;
  • Jan Krawitz, Professor of Documentary Film and Video at Stanford University;
  • Earl A. Powell III, Director of the National Gallery of Art;
  • and Kehinde Wiley, artist.

The winners will receive a trip to Washington, D.C. this summer where their videos will be shown at a special ceremony at the White House Historical Association. The deadline to submit is June 8, 2016.

This is the second collaboration between the 黑料网 Foundation and Artsy, following the 2014 Emerging Curator Competition, to focus on the importance of actively engaging with and responding to works of art, and providing access to digital resources to students.
